Board of directors
River of Pride is a non-profit organization with a Board of Directors elected by the LGBTQ+ community of South-East New-Brunswick. These dedicated volunteers meet a minimum twice a month and are elected for one-year terms at the Annual General Meetings, which are held in January. They are mandated to guide, develop and fuel the organization. Without these dedicated people, ROP would not exist!
Here are the 2021-2022 Board of Administrators:
Sam Walsh -President
Hello! My name is Sam and I'm the president here at River of Pride. I'm 19 years old, and pursing a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with minors in English and Community Engaged Learning at Mount Allison University. I do a lot of work helping teach community members about the queer community, and how to interact with us respectfully, as well as helping to coordinate all the tasks and events that the board is working on. I love working with the community and with community members to help enhance our sense of belonging and understanding of one another.
Matt Flowers - VICE president
Hi folks, my name is Matteo. I'm your 2021-2022 Vice President! I'm 19, I like to travel, write, take photos, hike, and lots more. I love working within the community because I want to create positive change where it's due, and have a blast experiencing new things while doing it! I also am a dad to two handsome rats, whose names are Bugs and Cricket.
Ashley Waugh - Secretary
I love working with the local LGBTQ+ community because I know what it’s like to come out and have little to no support. It is my personal goal to be who I needed when I came out 5 years ago. I graduated from Oulton College as a Youth Care Worker in 2015 and have been working in the field ever since. I am passionate about working with youth to help them become the best and most real version of themselves. I have recently started a new LGBTQ+ community group for young adults whether its to help them find their place in this world, to work on positive mental health, and to get to know like minded people!
Justine Lorch - Social Media
I use she/they pronouns and identify as a queer polyamorous femme human! Two big things happened for me through COVID, I moved to Riverview a year ago with my partner and two cats from outside the province AND I became a full-time artist and content creator. I joined the River of Pride team as the social media manager, and I also coordinate all of the visuals for this year's Pride Festival! You'll be able to find me through out the festival snapping pictures of the festivities and helping out at some of the art activities!
Zoë Wright - Webmaster
I'm Zoë (Zo) They/Them, and I'm 23. I am the webmaster for RoP this year. When I'm not coding, I love spending time out in nature with my dog, practicing my photography, and painting... and taking care of my jungle of plants. I'm so excited to be working with RoP to continue to cultivate an inclusive and discrimination free New Brunswick, and plan so super fun queer events along the way!
